Welcome to my Reading Recovery website page!
I hope that everyone is having an enjoyable summer. I also hope that students are getting in some reading as much as time allows. Reading is so important, especially during the hot days of summer. Research has shown that children often regress in their reading when their reading skills are not practiced during the summer months. Our local library is a great place to start! Students feel a sense of pride in being able to check out books of their choosing (maybe a little assitance from the library staff with the appropriate reading level). Reading to children is also very beneficial. Children need to hear the language of books as they continue to develop their oral language. They are also learning that a story follows a sequential order and it makes sense. They are developing “in the head” strategies such as predicting and confirming while listening to stories. These skills continue to develop as they read their own stories.
I will be very happy to see all the smiling faces soon! Have a great rest of the summer and get ready for an exciting school year!
